I'm a native of Walnut Cove, NC and have lived in the Winston-Salem area most of my life.  I'm an avid sports fan and spent a number of years working as a college athletics administrator. I realized, however, that my most enjoyable experiences weren't the exciting games or the big wins. Rather, it was the time spent interacting with student-athletes and co-workers, fostering meaningful relationships and investing in their lives.  So it only made sense to transition to a career where I could devote all of my efforts to doing just that!

I believe therapy is most effective when approached from a holistic perspective.  In keeping with the mission and vision of Heal-thy Self, my background and training have been geared towards treating the mind, body and soul. I earned my BS in Exercise Science from Wake Forest University, an MS in Public Health from Meharry Medical College, an MA in Ministry from Carolina University, an MA in Counseling from NC Central University and a PhD in Physical Education from Florida State University. While I use a variety of clinical approaches, I view relationship as the most important therapeutic tool. To that end, my counseling philosophy incorporates the elements of person-centered theory, as I view the traits of empathy, unconditional positive regard and non-judgment to be instrumental to the therapeutic process.

As a counselor, I am here to support you in the areas you have identified as most important to your life. I have worked with clients from all walks of life and believe that I can find common ground with anyone, however through my life experiences, I have had extensive engagement with underrepresented communities, faith-based communities and athletes. But regardless of our race, gender, faith, identity or orientation, we are all bound together by the common thread of our humanity. We've all experienced want, need, loss and hurt. When we encounter the ups and downs of life, it can be helpful to process these feelings with another person. If you agree, I'd be honored to walk beside you as you take this step!
